第二次募捐不到三天就达到了目标,所募捐的N95医用口罩再次全部送往Temecula Valley Hospital, Rady Children’s Hospital, Escondido Post Acute Rehab, Life Care Center of Escondido, Villa Rancho Bernardo, Poway Healthcare Center, Carmel Mountain Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center等。”

San Diego Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST-SD) is a non-profit organization established in 2002. In the past 18 years, CAST-SD serves as a bridge between the United States and China for cooperation in science and technology, and at the same time, dedicates itself in serving the local communities towards a better society. Under the severe circumstance of COVID-19, CAST-SD members step in to raise urgent-needed medical supplies together with other local Chinese associations. These supplies are donated directly to local hospitals, medical facilities and communities to protect medical and healthcare staff from COVID-19.

At the early stage of pandemic, CAST-SD successfully raised 6000 pieces of masks for a local police station, which is the beginning for CAST-SD to support fighting against COVID-19. At press time, CAST-SD and its members already donate more than $18,000 worth medical supplies and PPE to local hospitals, health care centers, police stations, senior centers, foreign student communities for UCSD and SDSU, and so forth. These productions include 16500 pieces of surgical masks, together with 8 ventilators which are joint donated with ACCEF. These ventilators are then sent to the medical centers in Florida and New York.

“We used less than 5 hours to raise the first 200 boxes of surgical masks in the first raise event” This is proudly announced by the CAST-SD president Junying Zhou when she was talking to the journalist about how CAST-SD gather together to fight against COVID-19. “We finally raised 10,000 pieces of masks. They were sent to Scripps hospital, Sharps hospital, Palomar hospital, Alvarado hospital, Las Villas De Carlsbad, Grossmont Gardens, Los Arcos Senior Housing, Harbor View Senior Assisted Living, Human Good, and other hospitals and senior communities. In the second raise event, we reached our goal within 3 days. All the raised N95 masks were sent to Temecula Valley Hospital, Rady Children’s Hospital, Escondido Post Acute Rehab, Life Care Center of Escondido, Villa Rancho Bernardo, Poway Healthcare Center and Carmel Mountain Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center.”For now, members in CAST-SD still keep their path to help more hospital staff. After sending surgical masks to five health care centers, Junying was informed that these centers are still in urgent need of protective suits and face shields. “CAST-SD is trying our best to find more resources, raise more supplies to help more people. Together we will eventually defeat the virus.”
